Students, faculty and staff at Washington Lands Elementary School in Marshall County have special reason to celebrate March as Music In Our Schools Month.

One of their devoted teachers, Eli Lambie, was chosen as the 2023 Society for General Music Teacher of the Year. This distinguished honor is bestowed upon one worthy teacher annually on behalf of the West Virginia Society for General Music and the West Virginia Music Educators Association.

President of the Society of General Music Kathleen Fox presented the award to him at the Clay Center in Charleston, West Virginia during the All-State Children’s Chorus Concert Friday evening. Fox, also a Marshall County Music educator, was the recipient of this award in 2007.

Lambie is a music educator, singer/songwriter, pianist and composer from Moundsville. He teaches music at Washington Lands Elementary and serves as an adjunct professor at Wheeling University. Lambie is a nominated quarter-finalist for the Grammy Music Educator of the Year Award and was named Washington Lands Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year in 2021. He has a Master’s degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University, and Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, and Music Technology from West Liberty University. Lambie is a two-time winner of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and Woody Herman Jazz Award.
